What is Leadership?
The position of being a manager or the person in charge of a team. It is an
art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a targeted goal.
Like a Football or hockey team, playing with motto to win on the other team. Winning
is the main target of leadership.
Difference between Leader and Leadership
In simple term we can say that leader and
Leadership is same i.e. a leader perform his duties is leadership. But there is
a huge difference in Leader and Leadership.
Leader have a simple goal to reach the target with his team by using leaders’ approach whereas the leadership term is much more broad and complicated. The leader keeps himself upper side and rule the team to achieve the target whereas the leadership is a combination of various human values, management skills, techniques which are implemented at various stages to get the success. Here the leader don’t seems himself as leader or superior. He/she keeps himself aside and plays the roles to combine or unite team members with their different types roles to achieve the goal.

A good leader
may not having good leadership or a leader having good leadership, may not be a
good leader. A leader keeps himself hide to get the desired goal and produces
new future leaders for his/her team.
Leadership Styles :
- Democratic Leadership – Can also define as participative leadership style or shared style. This is most effective leadership style which allows lower level employees to give their suggestion for betterment of firm/company/organization. Example is Company Board Meeting. This is mostly found in private sector where the betterment of more gaining is more important as HQ gives some agenda and members give suggestions.
- Autocratic Leadership is just opposite of democratic leadership style. In this style, the leader takes decision and no other members have the right to give suggestion. Employee, staff or members are not considered, even not consulted. Every one have to follow the decision strictly. This is less effective. It is found in private firm, mostly in one family dominated political parties. It have much more adverse side effect on firm, company, organization or society. A wrong decision which cannot be objected may cause a heavy to heavy loss to firm, society.
- Bureaucratic Leadership is Bureaucratic Leadership is most common in organization, government sector where they might listen and consider the members input. But normally, they rejects the staff, members, employees ideas as they find it is conflicts with their policy or current practices. Here the post is most important and seems that whatever the agenda is given or prepared, the team have to follow each word. If anyone gives ideas, it seams interference in higher management and management never take suggestion. In Autonomous bodies, NGOs, Orgnaizations, Government sector it is seen and a wrong decision may affect the lost. But the management doesn’t care for result.
- Manipulative leadership style is based on the belief that employee, staff, members may should be manipulated by the leaders so that their goal may be attained. The leader tries to achieve goal by exploiting the weak points of employees and the members are treated as tools for achieving team objectives. This is a result of distrust in the members towards company, team as they feel themselves cheated. This type of leadership style found in some organizations where the job security sustained.

Leadership Traits
- Accountability : The best leaders take full responsibility for their team performance, it doesn’t matter the outcome good or bad. Leader gives positive criticism to members so they don’t feel bad but try to work harder.
- Adaptability : Due to unavoidable circumstances or even for some small causes the situation become un favourable for any work, at this time the best leaders understand that plants, schedules, goals can change any time. He/she should have flexible and should adaptability skill.
- Confidence : Good leader must have confidence. The obstacles comes on every step, he must have trust on his team. If leader show confidence on team members, they will work with full enthusiasm.
- Optimism : With positive mindset, one can work with his team. It creates good work environment, healthy atmosphere and positivity itself is a almost half achieved goal.
- Vision and Mission : Good leader must have clear vision and mission. When he/she have understand wisely the vision and mission, they only he can concentrate on the team to achieve the goal and can set mission for final outcome.
- Empathy : A good leader arranges informal meetings, cheers them for their hard word, tell about the future challenges and how they will face. Try to put the voice of members to higher authority.
- Focus : A good leader keep focus on main targets. He tries to ignore the internal problems, other obstacles which may affect the goal. By this he concentrate on most important things and main target.
- Risk management : Without facing the risk, the experience will not come, but the good leader analyses by making flow chart, old examples, current situation on any risk and after comparing pros and cons, take the wise, suitable decision.
- Team Building : No target can be achieved without a good team. A good leaders knows how to build a team. Team work is most important and by this any target can be achieved. A leader built team and convert the team into team spirit.
